Robert Trussell was the Kansas City Star’s theater writer from 1990 until his retirement in 2016. Previously he was a hard-news reporter who covered police news, local politics and extreme weather. As an arts-and-entertainment writer he covered pop music and movies.
Among the theater luminaries Trussell was fortunate to interview through the years were Edward Albee, Arthur Miller, August Wilson, Patti LuPone, Mandy Patinkin, Terrence McNally, Wendy Wasserstein, John Caird and Moises Kaufman.
As a music writer, Trussell interviewed or wrote profiles of a wide range of artists, including Jay McShann, Pete Seeger, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Lionel Hampton, Tony Joe White, John Lee Hooker, Joe Ely, Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark.
